Global Leaders in HOCL Formulations and Technologies

Developing novel technologies
to tackle antimicrobial resistance

SpectrumX are leaders in proprietary formulations of HOCL (Hypochlorous Acid). Through our partnership with Spectrum Antimicrobials, California, USA we hold various licenses for the use of their unique formulations.

First discovered in 1834, it has taken the technological advancements of SpectrumX to, for the first time, produce a stable, efficacious formulation that performs in real world conditions.

What we do?

What we do?

HOCL is one of the most versatile chemistries on earth. SpectrumX are focused on the utilisation of HOCL in 2 key sectors:

  • Ground breaking inhalation medicines for respiratory infections
  • Wound care products to prevent infections and improve healing time

  • Sanitisation solutions to protect the public and reduce the spread of infections.

SpectrumX Group:

SpectrumX Medical is a global leader in HOCL formulations. At the forefront of medical research and development into therapeutic applications, we are testing and developing novel treatments to tackle antimicrobial resistance and infection.

The current global hand sanitiser market is dominated by alcohol based products. We supply the NHS and other major healthcare services with Spectricept™ - the most powerful hand sanitiser in the world.

What is
Hypochlorus Acid (HOCL)?

What is
Hypochlorus Acid (HOCL)?

Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL) is a weak acid that is produced by our bodies to destroy foreign bacteria and viruses.

Neutrophils are white blood cells that are the first to arrive on site when an invading pathogen is detected. Neutrophils will chase down and engulf the pathogen through phagocytosis. Upon contact, neutrophils release a burst of bactericidal chemicals including its most powerful oxidizing agent, HOCL. This kills the pathogen by tearing down the cell membranes and proteins.

Because it is a naturally occurring substance it is biocompatible and safe for human use. It eradicates all bacteria, mycobacteria, spores, fungi, viruses – including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

Through our partnership with Spectrum Antimicrobials, California, USA we hold various licenses for the use of their unique formulations in the United Kingdom and Europe. Historically, HOCL has been overlooked by “big pharma” due to the fact HOCL has never previously been able to be patent protected as well as the limitation of traditional production methods.

Did you know:

Spectrum Antimicrobials are the only company in the world to hold a patent on a finished HOCL product – Spectricept. They additionally have created a formulation that not only has excellent shelf life but also maintains efficacy in the presence of serum  (blood, salvia, dirt etc). This is key as our product works in real world conditions where all other HOCL producers fail.

Scientific Innovation - Spectricept™

Spectricept – the evolution of HOCL

Spectricept is the most potent formulation of HOCL in the world. It has been in development for 30 years. The active ingredient in Spectricept is hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Hypochlorous is approved for human use as a skin disinfectant under the EU Biocidal Products Legislation EU528 (2012). This means every element of our hypochlorous technology has been tested for safety and efficacy. It is also approved as a hard/soft surface sanitiser.

Derived from the body’s natural immune system, it is safe for all skin conditions and age groups and has undergone extensive skin, eye, and lung testing.

Alcohol Free

Spectricept™ is alcohol-free and healing to the skin versus alcohol-based products that cause degradation and damage to the skin.

Patent Pending

The only effective formulation to work on dirty surfaces, such as skin and hair, making it applicable in “Real World” conditions.
